Bunny, I'm sure you have an HR department.
Go talk to them about what you can do should someone call your employer in an effort to conduct personal business with an employee.

Odds are (because it's generally how it's always handled) is to remind the caller that they are calling a place of business. Personal calls need to be handled on personal phones.

If the caller persists, make a complaint with your attorney general.

I've done this several times (I work for a LARGE company) and it's always stopped the calls.

While a need exists to limit distraction at the PoE, it's good to see employer policy which supports a person's rights. FDCPA protection triggers when the collector "knows or has reason to know" the boss doesn't want employees pestered. Merely stating "place of business" is not explicit enough. Thugs who are desperate for a fast payment do not obey tacit rules of etiquette and should thus be barred from calling again.

As part of policy, company reps should have a scripted response saying that no calls from debt collectors are tolerated or welcome, and some record of those gag orders should be maintained. This spares the hunted person from having to fight alone, and frustrates the misleading tactic of the same agency calling repeatedly for different employee names. Debt collectors who ignore the PoE prohibition can be sued by their alleged debtors, who will win that claim more easily with documented proof that the nitwits got the "clam up" speech.
