My boyfriend received a call from this number claiming to be our cable provider. They told him he could receive a $100 gift card and something else if he pays for the shipping. Finding this suspicious, my bf asked them what his account number was or even his last name, since the cable provider would know this. They refused to say. Sounds like a scam just looking for credit card numbers. He tried calling them back and got the same this ^ Jason did.
This is a Google number. Scam artists. This is what you do to slow them down. Give them false information, anything to keep them on the phone for as long as you can. Take up their time...which is, in a sense, taking their money seeing as while you keep them on the phone they cannot get to someone who will actually fall for their BS.
Prepare beforehand by making up account numbers, addresses, names, birthdate etc.
These people are using auto dialers that start with XXX-0000, 0001,0002 etc. They don't know who YOU really are. So..turn the tables and screw them!
I got this same scam today. He said he was from Cox Communications which confused me, knowing I don't have any sort of service through that company. I told him I didn't have any sort of payment on me so I could look up the number and he said he would call back. It seemed extra suspicious when he didn't know my first name or any address to send this "free gift" to.
someone from this number called my phone. I missed the call and tried calling it back. it said this google member was not available leave your name etc etc etc.....
Caller claimed to be from RCN and wanted to reward their loyal customers, of which I am not, with free in home security. When I said not interested he kept asking me if I already have in home security. I hung up.
