Same thing just happened to me. The lady that called claimed to be from "Optimum" and wanted to "thank me for being a valued customer." She said I could receive a $100 gift card if I paid for shipping and handling. I immediate knew where this was going and said "I already know how this works, no thanks" and she just hung up on me. Definitely a scam, so beware!
I knew ahead of time that this was a phony call, I looked up another number a few days ago and found that it was the same person doing the same thing that happened to April above...
So I gave em a fake name, and told em "you're not fooling anyone... so... [***] off..."
A friend of mine got a call from this number with somone saying they were with Time Warner Cable and wanted to reward him for his loyalty with a $100 Visa gift card. They told him they needed his credit card number to pay for the "shipping and handling". He called BS on them and asked for a phone number to call them back at, and they gave him this one, 323-521-9136. As soon as he got off the phone, he called TWC and they confirmed, total scam. Lesson to learn, if anyone ever offers you a "free" gift card for no real reason that YOU have to pay shipping and handling for and the only thing they know about you is your name and phone number..........s*#t's a scam
