SCAM ALERT..... Received a call from a guy with a thick Indian accent saying he was from the Internal Revenue Service we weren't home so he left a message that it was important that I called back. So I did. He goes on to explain that there is a warrant out for my arrest blah blah blah because I owe money on delinquent taxes - REALLY?? - no I don't. So he asked me if I wanted to be arrested or if I wanted to cancel my arrest warrant. I said, "I think what I will do is go down and turn myself in to the police department and I will give them this number to call and get information." To which he replies, "No ma'am I wouldn't do that: and he promptly hung up. SCAM!!!! The phone number is 1-323-606-9781. If you get a call don't give any information. Please share this information.
Guy with Indian accent calls here for my daughter, who no longer lives here, and she also had received an IRS refund. He has called here before and uses different names. I looked on youtube.com and found that a guy using this scam said he was actually calling from Pakistan and admitted that this was a scam.
Oh my gosh!!! I just got a call for a woman that I've gotten collection calls for before and they left a message and I called back to let them know they contacted the wrong person and the guy said ya right and started talking and I told him I'd report him for giving personal info to another person and he said shut up B**CH and then told me to F**k off. You can bet I'll keep calling them and reporting them!
I also got a call from this number. Heavily Indian accented guy (couldn't exactly make out the name) said he was calling from the Dept. of Legal Affairs, U.S. Treasury. At first he put me on hold, and I could hear a lot of background chattering in heavily Indian accented English. He came back on the phone and asked at what number they had called me (I was actually returning a phone call from them...it was a woman who had left a very long-winded message...said I could get my attorney to call me if I'm too busy), and when I gave my number, he verified my name. He said IRS has taken a law enforcement act against me. I asked him to be specific, as I haven't done anything wrong. He read off a long list of my alleged violations and asked not to interrupt him until he's done reading it all. He concluded by saying I'd be imprisoned for 6 months if I don't pay up the penalties or something. He even said an IRS agent will come out to my house to discuss this matter. I asked him why I'm being notified of something this grave by phone instead of US mail, and why I haven't received anything in the mail from IRS directly. He said "OK, I'll send you the documents by mail" and then HUNG UP ON ME!!!! I called back the number, and this time a woman answered, also heavily Indian accented. I asked "Are you the Dept. of Legal Affairs, U.S. Treasury? Will your phone number 323-606-9781 show up on your Web site if I go there?". She said "Yes, it will show up. You can visit the Web site and check" and then she also HUNG UP ON ME!!! This is when I knew this was a scam for sure.
So glad I googled this number before I contacted my lawyer or called them back. I just received a call last night but I tend not to answer my phone anymore if I don't recognize the number, just too many calls from people wanting me to do surveys or donate money or listen to their political blah blah blah. This call came up Los Angeles CA and the woman with a very thick Indian accent said her name was Robin Smith, at least that's what it sounded like. She said she was with the Department of Legal Affairs and she was giving me a verbal notification about a law enforcement action that had been started on my name. She said I should retain an attorney to call back if I couldn't but to call or this could be a big legal mess for me. This call got me very upset for sure as I couldn't imagine what I had done but I also had some doubts of its validity as I would've thought the Dept of Legal Affairs would contact me by mail, or at least identify themselves on the caller ID, and are they really located in Los Angeles ? That was going to be the next thing I googled.
Called to speak with my son, from the Legal Affairs of the US Treasury re: Federal Taxes. She left the message, when I returned the call, he would not go into details. Both had foreign accents. Wanted to know where my son was. I did not believe this was a 'real call', so I looked up the phone number. Appreciated finding out that other people believe it to be a scam.
