called stating that he is an attorney helping US bank collect on a debt. I was told that I would be served if I didnt set up arrangements to pay. But he was unable to mail me any info on the debt.
I believe it is a scam also. My relative got a call from 323-638-0388. Relative said they had papers, documents to serve to and that I should contact them regarding a "Case" number and the papers... Relative called back that number and someone DID answer, and said they were with the Lincoln Law Group, or Associates in Los Angeles Ca.... or something like that. Probably a bottom feeder collection agency.
Later my relative got a call from another number with an area code near his location, which did not refer to the Lincoln group or number, but left the same message about papers needing to be served and gave a case number ....
VERY INTERESTING AND SUSPICIOUS ... The original case number had no prefix, only the numeric main number and an alpha suffix. This person cited the same case main numeric number, but gave an alpha prefix and no suffix. This could be a real case number from public records, or it could be ficticious... I have no recollection of the case number or where it may be from, and I am not going to spend time and money trying to verify it.
This person then left my relative this number to call - 844-215-5990. We checked 800-Notes for this 844 number and it was listed. Most remarks said it was a scam as well... so I did not bother to call it.
I then checked checked the 323 number with the Better Business Bureau. It was listed there with several complaints. The BBB stated they were unable to contact them. This all leads me to believe this is a widespread scam. It could be originating from the same outfit calling from one area and with technology are able to make it look like it is different numbers from different locations..... With what I have learned from comments on 800-Notes, the Better Business Bureau, etc. I believe this is a scam. If they were able to come up with phone numbers, why couldn't they come up with an address, and either send a process server from the court, or send certified mail the documents with instructions... Most of the time from my understanding, when being served legal documents, the process servers don't call in advance or call and ask you for information to receive papers... all very unorthodox and very suspicious...
Further more... the fact that Anthem BC/BS Health Insurance was just hacked for thousands or millions of records is on my mind ... Insureds names and phone numbers were obtained... it is mighty suspicious that I started receiving these calls after the Anthem hacking occurred. Just something to think about... I would urge you to cautious in returning these calls, and please never give out confidential information by email or over the phone. Take Care All !
