I got the same message as reported by a few folks already; salient points:
- male, accent almost definitely from India; age: 30's to 40's
- claimed his name was Steve Martin, like the actor, and that I owed money to the Treasury
- that this was his second attempt to contact me (first I'd heard of this)
- and that I needed to call back to 323-723-3454 or face a magistrate court or grand jury
He ended with "Please help us to help you".
After quickly realizing how ridiculously stupid was the scam, I then wondered how desperate must someone be to work for whoever is running this operation. Maybe the person who identifies himself as Steve Martin and these other callers got scammed and are trying to earn back the money they lost.
I too was called today & everyday for the last week or so. I too got the Foreign Accent message to conTACT them. They claim to be the Treasury Agency, but forget to say US Treasury Agency.
Time to block the number. Thanks to the new ability built into my phone, I can directly block them without calling the phone company
I received several calls with the same scam. Heavy indian accent, grand jury or magistrate appearance threatened. Not responding to his voice mail would be construed as a second attempt avoid being contacted, etc. We never got a "first" attempt at contact.
I received basically the same recording from a different number as well: 323 686 3273.
Getting really old. I'm about to give up my land line. Got the same message as above on VM saying something about appearing before the magistrate blah blah blah. Just a scam. Who believes these? Someone must or they wouldn't keep doing it. Stop the madness.
Received a call 10minutes ago from this number. Caller id said it was from California? Accent threatening a grand jury or magistrate appearance. He was advising me to cooperate so that the magistrate could help me. Luckily I let ot go to voicemail. It unnerved me at first, until I sat down to think and reaized it had to be a scam.
I received a call from Stevie Pakistani about 30 minutes ago, and let the machine get it. Same scam, but then he called back just now. When no one answered when I said, "Hello", I hung up. I surely hope they get these guys!
