They say they are us treasury and when asked a question and told that their phone number shows on the internet as not being safe they hung up. I called back to say I was going to file a complaint they said go ahead mam and hung up again. Does anyone have info about who they are and what they are doing? Scam? 323 729 3502

No. Just no. They're not traceable, they're most likely not in the US, and they'll keep scamming as long as people keep answering unknown callers or calling back and talking to them.

Obviously they are not afraid of your threat to file a complaint. Who would you file it with? The Indian equivalent of our FTC or FCC?

Read a few of the posts here; learn what's really going on these days, and protect yourself and everyone you know by educating them about phone scams. For that matter, Google PHONE SCAMS.

Yes they're a scam, possibly coming from another country. Unless you've initiated contact with government offices by telephone, you're not going to hear from them on it. They do business through the mail only. Going by what you've said, the caller blew their cover at least once, if not more. You basically debunked him saying their number appeared unsafe so he knew you weren't going to take his bait and he hung up fast. Telling you to go ahead and report him was another giveaway, he's likely safe in another country so that's about all you can do. Don't waste time calling these crooks back.

We received a call on our answering machine from 323-729-3502 this morning (26 May '15) at 10:24 am.  The message was a robocall and repeated itself 3 times.  The message was kind of garbled, but said the caller was "David Gray" and had something to do with the US Treasury and potential legal action.  I think it is a scam; the IRS does not contact people this way.

Just received the same scam message.  The U.S. department of treasury or the IRS (just received from those scammers) will not call you, they send official letters "return receipt" so they can document.
