Got a recording 8pm this past Thursday from Karen Bass telling me to attend some kind of community meeting. I thought robo-political calls are supposed to be illegal, but these laws are so hard to enforce. Sigh.
I haven't gotten any political calls since Bill Clinton ran.
Got this call around 7pm this past Thursday. (I was enjoying a movie) I thought these calls are supposed to be illegal in California (where I am) unless the recipient agrees to hearing the message. The Caller ID said "Ofc Karen Bass", my local congresswoman. I've gotten a call from her office before about 2 months ago, it was just a recording saying there's a community meeting planned near me, etc. The above poster is right about these laws being hard to enforce. Most laws are.
This time, it was inviting me to participate in some online meeting or over the phone. It was on the government deficit. My machine picked it up, and when the message got longwinded, I hung up the machine. The message said something about the phone company keeping my line open for up to 30 minutes.
I don't see how that can be, because when I picked up the handset, they were still on the line. I could hear voices of some meeting going on. I had to hit speaker twice to disconnect from it. I only have one line, and I don't want them tying it up.

I hate these calls. And just minutes earlier on the same night, I get a call from some collection agency looking for someone else. It was a recording.
I don't want to join a meeting on gov't debt. I have my own finances to worry about.
My call was a recording to join Karen Bass in a live community meeting about Syria, then it went into
the meeting where I assume she was speaking. I just hung up, they have called before and I am sure
they will call again.
Why the heck do you ppl answer the phone when its an obvious marketing/political/debt collector calls??? I simply do not answer the phone to unknown callers.
Uh, because phone numbers are easily spoofed to "familiar" numbers? They're expecting a call from someone? There are many reasons people answer the phone - oh, and not everyone, believe it or not - has caller ID.
