They call quite often, I never pick up. They never leave a voice mail either. I believe it is one of those Police/Sheriff charity calls that only speak to women.
Oh and one other thing, their phone number is an unpublished number. What kind of charity has an unpublished number; the kind that doesn't want you to know their identity.
They called me from this number today saying that they were collecting for Vietnam Veterans. My husband is a veteran of Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, which makes it difficult for me to say "no" to someone collecting charity for veterans. They are sending me something in the mail, I will be sure to send it back to them and inform them that I will be donating to the VA or VFW directly in the future. I think that they probably knew my husband is a vet which is why they used this particular scam on us.
Said they were from the Kids Wish List, and thank you for your previous support. I said I had never given to them, remove me from their list, and hung up.
I spoke with a representative today at home. They gave me the same charity name, and when I asked that they send information to me so that my wife and I could consider it, they said they only would if I said I would make a minimum donation of $20.00.
The initial caller sent me to a "verifier" who when I said that I would not guarantee the money (as I do not give other the phone to questionable charities), he hung up on me.
