Got a letter on the letterhead of 'Oltra Abodagos y Associata S.A.'.  My name incorrectly spelt (picked up from a 4 yr-old telephone book, I think.  Very good presentation, offering over nine million euros as legacy of 'relative' killed in plane crash.

A  firm with a similar name actually exists but nor a legal firm.

Scam (how stupid do they think you are?

We just got the exact same letter in the mail!
Same firm, 9 million euros from relatives who died in a plane crash. Searched the internet on the names in the letter, and found nothing. Nothing on the firm but with the telefone number i found this post.

I wonder what the point is? There is a link in the letter that they want us to follow, maybe that is the reason, to get some supervirus on my computer or something...

I also go this letter in the mail today, but with a different phone number (34 634 058 302) and not particularly professional looking (they tried, but not very well - there are spelling mistakes in the company name in the foot notes of the letter, the printing quality is not great and the signiture and date stamp are obviously printed by a printer, not done by hand).

Apparently long lost Uncle Valde, Aunty Maria and poor old cousin Pedro died in a plane crash on the 20th of August 2008 (and if I don't believe Barrister Ramon Miguel Duran, I am free to look up news of the crash on the provided website addresses). The plane crash appears to be a real event, with over a hundred people dead, making it a good cover story for a scammer like this.

Because I share the same surname as Valde, Maria and their son Pedro, and because Barrister Ramon Miguel Duran has been unable to find their relatives, I am allowed to be next of kin and inherit 9,387,750 Euros. Woohoo! But I better be quick to respond because the bank is going to confiscate the money within the next two months if no next-of-kin claims it.

They are apologetic for the way they are contacting me, and go out of their way to assure me they are legitamate. They tell me that they have already contacted the Australian and Various other Embassies for information, but have had no success, so have decided to contact me directly.

My surname is very uncommon, we know of most of the people in the world with our surname, and most of them are in countries closer to Spain than we are. Also, there is no mention of my husband, and it is HIS family name. I am only mentioned in the letter by my first intial and last name. We believe the information was taken from the phone book, as our details in the phone book only include my first intial and does not include my husband.

My dead father just received the same letter. Gee, I'm amazed we all have the same relatives. I googled Valdes, Maria & Pedro with my surname and they don't exist. Very creative scam.
