Received a call from this number with caller ID showing up as "American Express" (doubtful). The only message left was a few seconds of silence followed by a robo-voice saying "Goodbye," and the call disconnected. When I called the number back, I got the message that "this number is not accepting calls at this time," so I can pretty much assume the number was spoofed. And now, blocked.

No, It's NOT American Express...This is a nasty one. Initial call was a scratchy Asian male voice with a lot of static in the background. Started the ploy about "selected to receive SOLAR PANELS". Had my name and address. Went along with him for a bit to see who and where he was.. He said wait, I'll give you our company phone number .....ok hold on...wait...(lots of static).. wait..ok...I dont have it...wait.. Ill give you my email address"....gobbledegook....more static...mumbling, shouting in background...
Then I asked him why the Caller ID showed American Express, he told me he "was calling thru the internet", then asked me why I asked him, so I said "Look, you know it's not true, I know it's not true. I'm an investigator with the (XYZ- make anything up) Division of Frauds and we track you guys every day, so just tell me which Third World [***] country you are calling from so we can get their people to break down your door and haul you off to a really nasty prison for interrogation...?" I asked him if this is the best job he could get - or is he being forced to do this?
Got a little nasty after that, with him yelling obscenities, me laughing, then him cursing in what sounded a lot like Mandarin Chinese. Bingo! Our little friends in the People's Republic, or similar scumbags. No big surprise there. I was still laughing and just hung up. Then another call from 917-793-0924 right after. I did not answer.
So... one worry -- how do those people get our names and phone numbers? And know who has an Amex account? Will call Amex frauds to report the call - and buy a new Call Block answering machine.
I only answered because caller ID said American Express. When I did, an Indian male voice asked to speak with the homeowner. I told him she wasn't home at the moment, could I take a message. He said okay I'll call back later. After reading the above comments, I will not be answering the phone to American Express and I will contact my American Express card holder and inform them. This came in on Tuesday July 7, 2015 at 2:52 p.m.

Just got a call from this number -- and can confirm all of the above. I let him go on for a few minutes and then
asked why caller ID identified the call as coming from American Express. He hung up. I plan to contact American
Express to tell them about this scam.
