My God - look how many years these post have been collecting.... this scam is everywhere. Got a call several times over the past few weeks. First of all - the voice is a choppy mechanical voice -- I guess that's to hide the heavy accent the person on the other end has... I know we think it's clear that this is a scam, but unfortunately there are alot of people, especially elderly who panic and fall for it. Please be sure to spread the word.
This is just one of many scams that I get weekly - its ridiculous.... oh and by the way... yesterday I won 2.5 million dollars!!! all I have to do is send $275 through Western Union to a woman's name in Philadelphia to get my claim number LOL They had the nerve to call back last night to see if I sent it... I told them my friends wouldn't loan me the $275 so I'll just forfeit the millions..... oh and don't call me again.
Got a mechanical recorded message from this number saying: "This is to inform you about the lawsuit that has been filed on your name. So before we go with legal matter and send this case to the local county courthouse kindly call us back on our number which is 374-273-6028. Thank you and goodbye." The call back area code is slightly different than the caller ID number.
Seriously, if they're going to try to scare people with "official" phone calls, at least get the grammar correct! If there was a lawsuit, any official notification would be by mail or in writing and the company would have properly identified itself on the phone if it was legit. Now to file a complaint with the BBB...
This is a total scam they are claiming they are from the IRS and there is a warrant out for my arrest because my taxes were audited and I miscalculated my taxes from 09 to 12 and I owe 4 thousand dollars which is hilarious because all of my taxes have already been audited and fine by the IRS. I cut him off and said it was odd an arrest warrant was out for me when I have received nothing in the mail, no certified letter from the IRS which they will send about 10 of them to reach you and call you multiple times to try and work something out like payments or something before they do anything like an arrest Warrant and nobody has shown up at my door which they claimed a sheriff came to my house in July and in October and nobody was here. Duh, do you really think if the cops had an arrest warrant they would sit on it for months knowing where I live and since I didnt answer they would just say oh well and try again in two more months. They would kick in the door to arrest me!?!?! He could barely speak English and got upset when I said it was a scam. He told me I better get a good attorney because he was sending the police to my door in a half an hour and told me "Good Luck" Its been an hour and no cops, weird.
I received two calls today from 347-273-6028, both with the same recorded message that you received. I also noticed the area code in the message was different than the area code on caller ID.
IRS has not authority to direct local law enforcement to do anything; local law enforcement has nothing to do with federal income taxes.
No one is arrested in the US for being involved in an ordinary tax dispute. Tax disputes are civil matters.

But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of money. IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.
