Just had a call from this number. It is a scam. They want you to go to the command prompt on your computer and look for a CLSID number. Of course it willI be there because it is not a number unique to each computer. I told them that it was a scam because they didn't know my name, my computer id, my internet provider, my location... NOTHING. I got the name of the fellow... Allen David... which is most likely fake and the phone number 347-329-4400 which is likely VOIP and not based in USA at all so I phoned back and the fellow who answered explained that they were trying to stop people accessing other people's computers. Funny! That is what they are doing. I spent 45 minutes with him which prevented him from calling a few other people, perhaps.
What I read online is that they tell you that you have a virus and they charge you to 'fix' it.
How do they get your name and phone number? They called and said that someone was hacking my computer. I asked for their phone number and they gave me the number. The guy had a heavy Indian but said his name was Adam Williams....yeah, right. I also got their website address and it really looks professional. "Adam" claimed he was calling from the government??? and that they provide services to thousands of people. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be calling them back.
