I just received a phone call from this number, and they claimed to be calling from the Digital Network Service in Brampton, Ontario - DNS. The person identified himself as Ryan Harris claiming that his company was getting error messages from my computer for several weeks now, they sent me messages to stop, but that my computer didn't stop. I asked him for his phone number, and he gave me this one.
Of course, I never received any messages, he didn't say whether it was via email or just telepathic!! He wanted me to go on my computer, get into the cmd run and then put in a command which would let me tell him what my identifier number was so that the error messages could be corrected. I told him that I was not going to tell him that info, so, then he said I should follow his instructions, and he would read out to me the number he thought it should be.
I played along, was nowhere near my computer but told him I was, and when he read me a number, I told him it wasn't me. He said sorry and hung up. Obviously not a sophisticated scam.
I thought I would have a bit more fun, and blocked my caller ID and called the number. A woman answered Symantec, and in the background I heard many voices, obviously, a boiler room in operation. I pretended I had the wrong number when she answered Symantec, and said I was sorry, as I was calling a company called DNS, and asked her if it was DNS. She said no. I then explained that I recently received a phone call about my computer and the tech gave me this number, so I am sorry that it is not DNS. She then said DNS is a division of Symantec.
I told her I did not appreciate scam calls and then hung up!!
really a hard sell from some east induian claiming to be Kevin Miller from Brampton, On said someone is trying to hack my computer , ask his name and phone number , he gave me 347-329-4400. Said his company was called D.S.S incorporated. do I sound that stupid Kevin (whatever your name is?)
DO NOT GIVE INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR COMPUTER. DNS NET WORK SERVICE IS A SCAM ,THEY CALL FROM BRAMPTON THEY SAID THAT WERE HIRED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA PHONE NR. 347-329-4402. MARKET PLACE COULD LOOK INTO IT.....
someone called me today said his name was kevin. that he worked for dns and that my computer had been blocking there server and they had been sending me warnings but because someone had hacked my computer i wasnt seeing these warnings. they got access to my computer and showed me what they were talking about. they then typed in some cmd code into startup menu and then from there they typed cd.. cd.. and tree something ? and then it said my computer was 88% infected ...
is this a scam ? is my computer reallly infected ?
they showed me where i had a trogan virus on my comuter etc .. and then i shut them down by shutting down my computer cause i got scared i was being scammed
It is a scam. Why would you get a call from a random crook claiming you have a virus in your computer? He got into your computer cause you gave him the permission to do so. You got the call first right, and you made a stupid move by listening to the crook on the other end. Take your computer to a qualified technician and fix it. Since he got into your computer he must've uploaded some virus on it. Block the number, and report it to the FTC. www.ftc.gov.
