They said I owed money for magazines I never ordered wanted me to pay 99.00 to stop them from coming and when I tried to tell her I never ordered any she said she was sending it up to a higher part and that I would have to pay over 400.00 I never subscribe to any magazines they just started coming in my mail and I would throw them away . And I did try to call the number back and it kept saying that the number I have dialed was incorrect please try again .
someone called and said their name was Jade from TV Guide and that i was $400 behind payment because i was 10 months behind payment. My daughter called back and always got a busy signal.
Same thing.. got a call that I owed $400.00 for a bundle of magazines.. told them to to tell me what they were.. of course I did not get any listed.. said they were sorry I was on the wrong list. Few days later get another call saying they had received the message I wanted to cancel my subscription. I could do do for $198.00 much better price( very distinct) accent. Asked what magazine, it was one totally different from what I heard earlier.. also said had a recording of me confirming the order..told them I did not order any and would not be paying anything... next thing I know, there is the stupid magazine in the mailbox a couple days later!
A guy (sounded like a girl) called and said that I owe them $410 from delinquent payments on my magazine subscription. He/she had last 4 digits of my credit card number and my address. I asked about the last payment that I supposedly made. It did not match with any amount on my statement from that time. So I told him/her that I am not paying anything and hung up.

Could be a phishing scam, or a plain old shakedown. This feels like a locally run scam, something small. Might be worth reporting?
