Caller tells me he is an attorney and that I have defaulted on a payday loan.  And that it's an time sensetive matter and I or my attorney must contact him right away.

I ask him to fax me a copy of the loan documents that were signed and to provide me a statement showing that indeed the $1000 dollars had been deposited in my bank account.  He instantly becomes enraged and tells me I am a criminal and that I am going to prison.

If you receive a call from this number it is a scam or a poor attempt at one.  Chances are you DO NOT owe any money.  However these people have baught your information from some outside source, such as social security number, date of birth, adress and work and home numbers. There is nothing you can do. The police, the Federal Trade Comission no one can help you get rid of the situation.

However this is what I have done to protect myself.

What I have done is contacted my bank and closed my existing account. and reopened a different one.  I have also called the credit companies such as Trans Union, Equifax, and Experian and placed fraud alerts on them.  Anyone can do this they are free they last for 90 days and you can call and keep renewing them.

Further more I have obtained a copy of my credit report and combed through it to make sure there were no disputes.  From what I can tell these are the only preventitve measures in which you can protect yourself without spending alot of money to do it,  However I have gone out of my way to get back at these people.

By taking the number and giving it to sloicitors who will call them constantly to try and sell them something.  I have also called them back many times per day. and either hung up or started talking about stupid [***] to them.  The calls will never stop.  Also it is an asian male voice on the phone.

You'll note that the FBI calls it what it is; extortion.

To whom it may concern,

I foolishly applied online for a quick loan, which I never got, but instead I received a phone call from this number. The individual on the other end, named Don Parker, said they were with the Brooklyn Police department and worked for the Office of Recovery. They said that if I didn't pay $447 immediately I would lose my job and go to jail for 4 years. This frightened me greatly.

My grandfather decided to help me out with my problem and called the Don back and asked him to forward us the documents. After the request Don proceeded to hang up on my Grandfather. My grandfather called him back several times and Don proceeded to threaten him more.

My warning to others would be to avoid going online to find a loan no matter how desperate you may be. In regards to getting back at the scammers I would do exactly what Mickey Mouse said in his warning.

Hope this helps.

P.S. I have never heard of an Indian Don Parker and this guy was definitely Indian.
