I received a call from 347 474 3945 at 6:00 am California time! These scam people should be ashamed of themselves-e-same scam saying to call regarding our account per the state attorney general
isn't it possible to stop these type of calls? I am 74 and fully aware of everything around me but I am sure that there are some elderly people who would be taken in.
**SCAM** Said that they were from the United States Treasury, Inspector Dwayne McGuire. Said that I made a mistake on my 2012 taxes and that an arrest warrant had been issued for tax evasion and would be served in 20 minutes. I was then transferred to the General Inspector Jack Conoway Badge #421396. Told that because I had always paid my taxes on time they would cancel the warrant but only if I stayed on the line (they thought they had called a cell number) while I went and bought a tax payment card in the amount of $4,989. I was to give them the validation code and that an agent would be at my home by 11am the next day to collect the card and deliver all of the legal documents to me. Was told that if I disconnected at any time that 911 would instantly alert the police to serve the arrest warrant. This sounded fishy as both gentlemen had heavy accents and sounded like they were in a call center. The second time the General Inspector gave me his badge number it was slightly different (041396). By this time I had googled the number and was on the phone with the US Treasury hotline on my cell listening to them tell me that they NEVER contact individual taxpayers by cold telephone calls. They also slipped up when they started to say that the documents had been mailed to an old address of mine, then they corrected themselves to my current address. They were pretty good and tried to push all of the right panic buttons. BEWARE!
These scumbags called me twice at 5:30 and 5:45 AM to tell me I needed to return a call to 347-474-3186. That was because of "legal issues with my account and the state attorney general said to do so". No mention of who they are or who they are representing. So I will call the Oregon Attorney General's office and report these jerks.
I get them about two or three times a month. I'm 73.
A call blocker might be of some help. Also don't pick up on numbers you do not recognize, or where there are caller IDs that seem odd. Or where there is no caller ID. There’s no way to stop the calls from being initiated. Calls originate in India and Pakistan and they spoof local numbers. Total scam. Ignore and block them.
