Got a call today and it is, once again, some woman claiming to be from the "Civil Procedures Division". Claimed her name was Patricia and that someone was going to serve legal documents "tomorrow" and that someone needed to be home.
Oh dear....poor Patricia. This is the 3rd phone number that have called us with the same scam. Same script, same lies, same old garbage. They started calling from a Los Angeles number. We complained to the FTC and the attorney general, we let these scammers know this and the calls stopped. Then, the calls started coming from a Dallas, TX number...same script, same scam. We reported this number too and told them this the next time they called. The calls stopped.
Now they seem to have started from this New York number. We will report this too....even though the only good reporting them seems to be to stop the calls briefly, until they uproot and get a new number.
This time I just started asking this Patrica woman a bunch of questions like: Your name again? What Company? Where are you? She hung up quickly.
What is going on with this? It was way beyond ridiculous. This Civil Procedures Division mob seem to be hitting the whole country pretty hard....there are reports all over the internet. And no one seems to be able (or willing) to do anything about these crooks and the calls keep coming. Yeah, I have reported them to anyone who might listen and will continue to do so, but that is because that is all that can be done. It might seem worthless, but it HAS to be better than doing nothing.....though sometimes it doesn't feel like it.
So please, people, if you get a call from these people (or anyone like them for that matter) do NOT give them any information. Tell them that you know it is a scam, that you are reporting them and to not call again and simply hang up. Report them to the FTC but also (and more importantly) report them to your State Attorney. (Please do not waste your time reporting them to the BBB or any other powerless, for profit companies....those people are crooks too) It might seem pointless, but the more people who DO report them the more likely something might get done.
Just be brave and smart and do not let these horrible people take advantage of you. There are a lot of crooks out there who would rather steal your money through lies and intimidation rather than make an honest living. Do not let them bully or fool you. THEY are the weak and sad ones. Do not give them the time of day. Report them and move on.
