Called me this morning, stating its IRS. I had a similar call a month ago from another NY number and recognized the pitch from the very beginning so i hung up and blocked the number. This is scam, asking for money for taxes you do not owe. Do not give them any personal information!
he asked me that I a calling you from IRS security department about a charge bla bla bla , and asked me did your police department informed you about this issue .I said i am going to inform police now, and he just hanged up.
Got a call this morning from the same number. Gave me his name - Terrence James Cable and his IRS badge # 841406( he stumbled over the badge # and had to change it midway through). Said my home was under federal investigation and there was a warrant for my arrest. Said they had mailed me letters 6 months ago for an IRS audit dating back over the last several years that I told him I never received. Asked a lot of questions on if my mail gets misplaced or sent to another address, when I told him no he said that I basically admitted I received the mail so there is no excuse. Said the police and US marshals were on their way to my home and I would be arrested and detained for up to 72 hours until I appeared before a judge. I knew this guy was a scam about a minute into it, but I wanted to see how far he would go. He gave me the supposed form number that was mailed to me (CP2000) and told me that I need to understand that form will send me to jail and take all I own. The whole time I just kept agreeing with him and letting him speak. He then asked me if I had a tax attorney and I told him yes. At that point the conversation changed. He quickly seem to change his tone and told me I should contact my tax attorney and let him know about the form and maybe he could help me. He asked if I had any questions then said goodbye. He never got around to ask me for money or an account number.
If they call, tell them you want their number and your tax attorney will be calling to handle it for you. That should end the conversation pretty quick.
