Reporting back in:
I just called the number back again using *67 to hide my number and for the first time I got a recorded message that this number was no longer in service. The first few times I did it the same guy with the same Filippino accent answered. This time I got a recording that the "number was out of service."
So, I guess my phone calls telling them the FBI was investigating got to them enough so that they stopped using this phone number. For the time being at least.
I'm now imaging them packing up and running out of the back room they call from in fear of the FBI... I wish.
Next time you get a phone scam calling you don't sit back and take it. Dial *67 to block your own number, call them back, and tell them you are with the FBI and are coming to investigate the because it is a Federal Crime to impersonate a Federal official.
I received this call... I am a widow and was very scared when the person on the phone said that there was a warrant for my arrest and that the only way to get out of it was to go to the bank, take out
$5000 Dlls in cash which I owed the IRS, then go to Vons Supermarket and buy a voucher for the same amount... and that I had to stay on the line until I gave them the validation # on this voucher or they would arrest me etc...That the second I hung up on them, I would be arrested in the next 15 min.
I may sound stupid to you, but I did panick and had no one to talk to while this was going on...
Praise God I had my computer in front of me and I thought of doing a Google search about this number...while I was shaking inside of me as I kept hearing this man with a heavy accent telling me that he was giving me the only chance not to be arrested...!.
I thank you for this site in which I was able to see that this number is a scam and several people got these same kind of calls..As soon as I told the guy that now I knew this was all a scam, he hung up on me...
So THANKS for writing about all this matter... You did help me and gave me my peace back..!
This is simply HORRENDOUS....!!!
Well, so far today we have received 3 calls from this very number with the same exact recorded message. I found it odd that they hadn't even said any of our names anywhere in the message as the recipient, and then they claimed to be from the treasury and that were were being charged with some legal action thing. I also found the person's accent fairly strange because it sounded pretty foreign. Like many other people I have gone and looked up the number on google and it has brought me here. And like everyone else, I say that this call is a scam to try and steal money/information from you.
This man called in broken English demanding for payment of unpaid taxes that I supposedly owe to the IRS, from 2011. He said my phone was tapped an I was going to go to jail if I didn't pay immediately. I hung up. I called back and the same man or at least the same accented gentleman answered. He answered "United States Treasury Office" I advised him that I knew this was a scheme to steal money an advised him I was going to report this phone call. He called me dumb and hung up on me.
