Modern technology has given telescammers the tools to call you.
Since those telescammers are criminals, they ignore both the Do Not Call list and any request you might make.
Modern technology can also protect you, if YOU do a few simple things!
The most effective thing to do is to get a call blocker device, service or app.
Then, use it correctly.
Google "call blocker" for more information, or visit Amazon or similar sales site.
If you cannot afford or use such a tool, then:
* Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service
* Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers! All that does is verify your phone number! And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete.

* If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scammers" (or similar). Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group.
* Another option, for both smart and "dumb" cel phones: Assign a "silent ringtone" as DEFAULT. Then, assign your favorite ringtones to all known friends / family / business numbers. That way, you will hear rings ONLY from those you wish to contact! You will not hear scammers' rings, even if they change their number!

I got this message on my answering machine today and the caller said strongly accented English that he was an IRS Officer and I needed to call this number 347-949-7315 about a claim against me. If me and my attorney did not call he would damn sure turn me into the court. This same guy has called me several times from Washington, D.C. and Bronx, NY. The first time was from a different number so I looked it up on the internet and found it was a scam. If he spent as much time working as scamming he would be a rich man. He called me again while I was typing this note
My son recieved this call and was a bit scared at first because the caller had stated that there was a warrent out for his mother''s arrest due to money owed the irs. But he had his girlfriend call the local P.D while he was still talking to the jerk.
If you get these calls scare the bastads back by leting them know you are tracing the call and are also recording the whole conversation to turn over to the Feds. Also always ask to speak their supervisio/ ask for their State or Fedral employee number.
IF you call your local P.D. while you are speaking the scamer put the call on speaker so the police can hear the conversation, or bet yet just call the local news station and play the call for the reporter, so they play it oveer the air and this jerk will get caught.
Received a call from this number on my home phone and thankfully it was while I was at work and went to voicemail. The connection was very bad and the caller had a very thick accent. My voicemail has the ability to transfer voice to text and it sends me an email so when I first read it, I thought it was a wrong number because the last name was wrong but when I listened to the voicemail later I was shocked to hear he knew my full name (it's just that the voice to text function didn't understand it because of the bad connection). Anyway, he said his name was officer whatever (I couldn't understand the name) and that he needed me or my attorney to call him immediately because there was a crime against me or something. Then he said if I ignored the call he would report my case to the court. Glad to see so many posts about this and know that it's a definite scam! I will not return the call and I will try to block that number so he can't call again!!
