Calls to verify employment is a normal part of business for all employers. If you are not authorized to do this then tell them who to call and they will probably stop calling you.
Keep in mind they have a business to run and a job to do. Your being difficult only makes it harder and they would probably prefer not to talk to you any more than you want to talk to them.
Mike from this company is calling our company and harrassing us weekly about verifying employee information. Which we do not do. He said its a civil matter, I said if it was personal he needed to contact that person at home. We do not take messages and we have no way of transfering calls. He has been calling here for a year and is very rude. I do not want him to call this office again.
