Paul called to offer me a free home security system, saying "they are re-doing the phone/ground lines in my area" and I have been chosen to receive a free home security upgrade. He had no idea what "area" I live in, didn't even know what state I am in. Could not answer any questions about what company he was calling from, nor how they got my number. Kept asking if I was the home owner- I refused to answer. Called  the number back, got a machine prompting me to "hit 1" to have my number removed from their calling list. Shady [***].

Just received a call from this number. It would not speak and hung up. My caller ID has it as V818112900006404. I called back and received the standard " hit 1 to be removed from our list. I want to know why this keeps happening if I'm on a "Federal" do not call list. According to the federal law on unwanted calls the companies are supposed to have computer software that eliminates our numbers from being generated. Why does the feds not enforce the laws?

Thanks LC-
I was going through missed calls numbers and 360 227 7534 with the name Belfair came up.  Googled it and here I am.

Important:  Avoid calling back and never hit "1" to have your number removed.  According to Consumers Report mag hitting "1" will create more telemarketing calls from scamers.  This will be going on my Ooma call block list.

This is something that has to be reported, there is no way for them to know otherwise.

They do, it takes time for them to chase these illegal callers down.  Here's a few recent articles - one explains what is happening and what it takes.

Consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so. If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. For tracfone & straight talk:

Report your callers here, not just to the DNC alone:

For text messages: forwarding any text message spam you get to the short code  “7726,” which spells “spam” on most phones, to alert your network operator to the abuse. ATT won't accept 7726 But they will accept BLOCK and return a message that the web site is blocked. forward the texts to 7726 or BLOCK, depending on your phone carrier.
