I received a call from this number today. I don't answer CAlls from anyone except my family (kids or their dad) and I was actually sleeping. And not recognizing the number when I saw I received a call... I looked here first. Figured it was a scammer .. I wish they were heavy breathers lol
Call showed as from Shelton WA
The call I got from this number was from the "National Insurance Foundation" offering to give me lower auto insurance. They are apparently calling nationwide, and using a variety of numbers (if you look up National Insurance Foundation on Google, you'll see a bunch of telemarketing complaints related to different phone numbers from all over the US).
They are using an automated dialing system, which is why they never leave voicemail and why no one answers until you say hello at least 2 or 3 times. The automated dialing system will just hang up if it thinks it's reached your voicemail and only kicks it to a live person after it determines you're not an answering machine.
The caller sounds automated, but the person I talked to was real. They just stick REALLY HARD to their script, often answering questions by just repeating their own previous statement or question. They're not allowed to really deviate from the script, so if you ask questions that requires they go off script, they'll either ignore you or hang up.
They said due to "new 2016 driver laws" I could "save a lot of money on my car insurance" and they ask about current insurance, if you're a homeowner, have you had any DUI's, etc., and wanted to set up a follow up call at a later time from an insurance agent. I asked what insurance company specifically they thought could give me a better rate, and they said they represent GEICO, State Farm, All State, and one or two others I don't remember.
I believe they are just looking for 'live leads' (knowing your number is live, they can sell it on to others) and forward to insurance agents so they can collect a % commission on any insurance sales.
Fake number, cannot be contacted back. VERY RUDE WOMAN CALLED ME A [***] FOR WASTING HER TIME. I had to wait over 30 seconds for her to even speak and even then she kept cutting out. Would love to know the company she works for. She claimed to sell insurance and says "she takes her work very seriously even if I don't"
They keep calling me and I answered since I've been applying to some jobs recently, they told me they're from the government and I have a $4,000 grant waiting for me. I asked why this offer wasn't email or mailed to me (so I could verify it was actually from the government...) and he got defensive and told me he had to set up my account for me to receive the money, kept asking me questions and I refused to answer them because the Government will never call you and ask for that info... Its a scam, don't fall for it!
