I finally answered a call (they have been calling me for 3 weeks now) from an unknown number. Spoke with a guy named Gary with an extremely heavy accent telling me I was selected for a one time only $7000 federal assistance distribution from the government. It actually sounded pretty legit, knew my name, address, my phone number and date of birth. After asking my method of collection (cash or direct deposit) I chose cash(suspicious of my "luck"). He gave me a follow up number and a confirmation ID number. I called the number 360-369-4375, questioned the lady about the name for this "program" and told her my father was a superior court judge and would like more information. After some silence she hung up. Thank god i googled the number!
BEWARE: Caller named Gary from an unknown number states that i was randomly selected to get a government grant of $7000. I had 2 options to get $. 1. cash / 2. transfer into bank. I selected cash just to see what they would say. He gave me phone# to call back 360-369-4375 to speak to Amy, the Senior manager and she will send $ to me. When I called her back, she asked me where was the closest Western Union that I can go to, to pick up $. When I told her, I don't know, because I don't go to western unions and asked if she had a list that I can choose from, she hung up. She figured I was catching on to their scam. Total scam! I've reported them/filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission as well @ http://www.grants.gov/contactus/contactus.jsp
These people need to be stopped and captured. I am pretty sure that they will not stop until they are captured.
They called me too. I wonder how they got my information. The address they had was where I had went to school. I am glad that I did not actually go to the Western Union. It sounds enticing when you are a poor college-age individual. Watch out college students!
A lady named Jackie called saying that I qualify for a grant of $7000. She had a strong Indian accent and told me to go to western union to pay a "transfer fee" of $249. When I asked to speak to someone else she hung up. I called back several times and she said "don't make me angry, you don't want to make me angry" but I insisted on speaking to someone else. Then I tried calling a few days later and they ignored my call.
