Good grief, it is one of the most advertised scams in the last several years!

There is a widespread IRS (or CRA) or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both USA and Canadian residents.

USA tax payers, click on the "USA Information" button, below, for lots of information and a reporting site.

USA tax payers should read this:

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

If you were contacted by an IRS impostor, you may file a report, after clicking on this link:

Received the same call on my cell from 360-390-5053 Port Townsend, Washington. I don't answer numbers that I don't know and if it's important they will leave a message. Got the same recording about the IRS is going to file a suit against me. Now I know that I don't owe the IRS anything since I'm on disability and file no taxes. Another number to put on my block list.

All, I just got the same call.  There are several tip-offs that this is a scam.  First, the language in the voice mail is not proper English.  Second, I doubt that the IRS would ever use an automated message to inform you that they are filing a suit against you.  Oh, and the IRS doesn't file suits - they garnish.  And, if you're accused of criminal tax fraud, you would be charged, not sued.

Please, please use common sense before responding to any calls like this.  And if you're still concerned, call the IRS directly, not the number you're told to call.  Save yourself heartache and worry.

Beware.....This is scam, claiming that IRS is filing lawsuit.  IRS will contact by mail and never initially contact you by phone.

it too was a recorded message stating that the IRS was filing  Lawsuit. This is so wrong, i work  with clients that have disabilities, what if they would have taken this call. this needs to stop!
