They are a debt collector. I have never spoken with them but I assume they work for Daniel Gordon and Associates out of Eugene OR. Mr. Gordon has a number of attorneys through the US that help him sue to collect junk debt based on my understanding.
For anyone who has encountered financial hardship and are being called and threatened even in the slightest please visit http://www.budhibbs.com/ -- If you are in way over your head and the debt is old, then it is very likely that the original company that extended credit to you has written off your debt as a loss and sold your debt to a 3rd party collection agency. Many of these are referred to as bottom feeders for good reason. They pay pennies on the dollar for these debts.
If you are way in over your head, do not pay anything not even a few dollars to these collection agencies until you have talked with an attorney. Collection agencies cannot collect after the statute of limitations runs out (7 years) which is from the last payment made. This is why you may hear a collection agent say s/he needs to get something so "they can help you"....."a good faith payment". This is garbage. They are trying to re-age your account. This means if you have an old Visa card for 2k that you defaulted on and have not paid on for 6 years the loss has already been written off by the bank. The debt has most likely been sold to a bottom feeder and in a year they can no longer collect from you unless you pay on it. If you pay even a dollar the clock resets and you have another 7 years.
Some debt consolidation companies are good - many creditors will work with you. But many of us have found ourselves in horrific financial problems due to lay offs, medical expenses and so on.
