Got a call from this number on my business phone that is registered on the National Do Not Call List. It was a quasi political survey with 5 questions. I answered the questions and was transferred to a sales rep that was to sign me up for my "free cruise" for completing the survey. I asked the rep what business did he represent. He said Caribbean Cruise Lines. I told him that it was illegal for them to solicit free gifts and then require someone to pay taxes or fees. He then hung up on me.
The FTC says: The Telemarketing Sales Rule prohibits telemarketers from misrepresenting any of these facts, as well as the nature or value of the prizes. It also requires telemarketers who call you to pitch a prize promotion to tell you before they describe the prize that you don't have to buy or pay anything to enter or win.
These people did not follow these guide lines.
I'm in Texas - just got a call. I answered but they hung up. It is a place that checks to see if cell numbers are valid and maybe sells the list of valid numbers to a telemarketing service? I downloaded Mr.Number on my android cell phone and it takes care of irritating calls like this one.
