Just got a call from "Ann from Political Opinions" (7:20 pm, July 2/12). I didn't bother tracing the number as our local telephone provider now charges $2.00 for the privilege. (I'm in British Columbia.) But from the comments above it is likely the same outfit.Unfortunately, there is no way for Canadians to register with the US DNC list, although by the sound of it, it wouldn't be of much use anyway. Our (Canadian) DNC list seems to work up here, aside from the numerous exceptions so generously provided by the CRTC. These databases should be linked, although that would still require our respective governments to "grow a pair" and start prosecuting the offenders.
You are so far removed from reality I don't know where to begin.
There is Federal Law which controls what may or may not be shared. The vast majority of the unwanted callers are either dialing blindly, working from previous customer information, or relying on commercially available databases. The Payday Loan scammers use information provided by their victims to fake loan sites.
And no, they aren't doing it by hacking your phone. Do you even know what those words really mean?
Outlandish and erroneous posts like yours contribute nothing but distracting noise to the equation.
"Political Surveys of America", in every case I am aware of, is a "blind dialer" operation. In other words, they don't have your number. They are of course not a real survey, but instead a sleazy operation trying to hustle people onto casino boats and separate them from their hard earned money. The "political survey" is a pretense, intended to give them legal cover by exploiting a loophole in the Do Not Call law.
Cell phone companies do not share your phone number, and you can further restrict even the anonymous sharing of activity profiles by making sure your account is set to disallow any sharing of CPNI. The default should be to disallow sharing, but it never hurts to log into your account and double check the setting.
Please do not allow the uninformed ranting of alarmist posters to cause you to worry. There are enough real problems to worry about in life without being stressed by the paranoid delusions of others.
