I received "New missed call from (360) 474-3989 at 1:26 PM" via my Google Voice telephone number. I guess their system, or the person couldn't\didn't make it passed my Google Voice's "say your name first" requirement feature, so it remained as a missed call sent to my inbox.
I *67 called it back & a recorded message said something about a surbey & it's over and press 1 to be removed sort of comment. I just hung up. It's *possible* that the removal request just verifies your number for them & they re-sell "good" numbers, or whatever situation that is going on with them & their calls.
I blocked the # in Google Voice (free service), so it won't be calling me back again; but, beware that this *might* be part of a larger operation & people *may* receive calls from other #s somehow related to them, even if block this particular #.
General advice: Be cautious when answering questions from anyone calling saying they represent anyone\anything that you aren't expecting a call from. Often lies will be told about surveys & political stuff & opt-in stuff, but often they are lying. I can remember who & why I give this # to & nobody has it, except a few people I know personally & it's not listed in the phonebook.
Just got a call at 1:36pm from this number, I hit ignore. When the call went to voice mail, the phone started ringing again immediately (same number) so I answered. Nothing. I said hello a few times, and absolutely nothing. No sound, no human. Blocking this number now through my phone company.
They apparently left voicemail - which I'm not going to spend time or $ to retrieve -caller is not identified name unknown' but # displayed. ' Do Not Call List just isn't working. My suggestion: write your representatives and tell them to get a bill through that STOPS unsolicited calls. PERIOD. NO loopholes! I agree w/others who have posted comment that by calling them back...you're just letting them know your # is valid. so...then even if THEY quit calling, your # gets circulated to others.
The usual phishing scam. They change numbers every few days to avoid filtering.
Basically you get a survey, then they offer you a "free" cruise, but you have to give them a credit card number for some small fees. Then they have your credit card number, and sell it to folks who will run up all sorts of charges on it.
