I have not posted anything on Monster.com & have been getting calls from this number as well. I have been just ignoring them as I do not know who they are.
I spoke directly with Yvette Melendez from the telco that Unanimous Rex reference in one of the first couple of posts here. She was very nice and we sorted out the problem. At first she offered to block that number from ever calling me (if it was one of their customers). But we talked a brief moment more to discover something.
I received these calls every day, but I never answer unknown numbers. So I called the number back once and received a Federal Trade Commission recording about phishing. I let Yvette know about this, and she believes that someone else was "spoofing" that phone number. I've heard of spoofing IPs, but this is new to me. I believe Yvette hit this dead-on.
So, this number is spoofed (it's not the real number), and your telco/wireless provider is supposed to help you block these numbers at your request if you want to hassle them over it. Also, the people using this number are scam artists. Obviously don't give them any information or waste your time talking to them. Be my guest to carry them along a conversation that leads no where, though. ;-)
Yvette just called me back and found that it isn't one of her customers, but possibly a voice over IP system that is spoofing the numbers, and possibly originating from Qwest networks. She might try to trace it in the future.
So to reiterate, contact your phone company and tell them this is a spoofed number calling you from a scam artist that is known and under investigation (and possibly litigation) by the Federal Trade Commission.
Somebody just called International Telcom about these calls and told me about this website. Unanimous Rex is correct - it is a number owned by Internatinal Telcom however it is not assigned to a customer and these calls are not being made over International Telcom's network - therefore there is nothing we can do to stop the calls. This is a case of somebody spoofing the caller ID. All you can do is call your local exchange carrier (or wireless if its your cell phone) and ask them to block the number and ask them figure out where the calls are coming from - if anybody has a small carrier they might be more willing to try to figure out who is using this phone number.
They called last night at 8 PM, I didn't answer, and I looked up the number online. Came to this page actually, so I knew what to expect... but they called me again today (4PM)... and I answered, ready to give them a sh*t storm, but there was no one there.
How has this number not been stopped even though people have been making complaints since August...?
