Called this morning about lower credit card interest rates. I pressed one...was connected to a static-y line, and the guy said, "Are you interested in lower rates?" And when I asked, "What company is this?" he hung up on me.
I am fed up with these pain in the back side calls, and I am also fed up with the useless Do Not Call list. I was on the phone when the first call came in from this number, I ignored it. One minute later a second call came in from the same number. I chose to click over to see who was calling. It was Lisa with Card Services about lowering interest rates. I hung up! After finishing my original call I decided to call the number back. I got a recording. It thanked me for calling back (now I'll probably get even more calls) and proceeded to tell me that I had been contacted by a legitimate company, and if I wanted to be removed from their calling list to please push 1. I did push one, and then it told me that it may take up to 24 hours to be removed. I have made several complaints to the Do Not Call website and that's as far as it gets. There is never any follow up from them. I wonder how much money is spent to maintain the Do Not Call list and website? To me, they seem to be totally ineffective! I have found a way to have a completely uninterrupted dinner, or what ever you want to be phone call free. Just put on call forwarding from your house number to your cell phone. My voice mail box is full(and that's the way I leave it), so they can't leave you a message, then turn off your cell phone. It works, but you have to remember to take it off, or else no one can reach you. Good Luck!
I agree with you. The DNC is a joke. Only legitimate companies will abide by it. Card Services has been operating for at least two years using various telephone numbers from all over the country. I report every call I get from them and other telemarketers to the DNC registry, not that it does any good. I even wrote to my US Senator's office about how ineffective the DNC is. That was about as useless as the DNC is! Maybe if everyone would write their Senators and Representatives, Congress might decide to put some teeth into this law.
This number has called twice in the last two days. When I answered yesterday, I hung up as soon as I heard the recorded voice saying something about lower interest rates. Today I listened to the message and pressed 9 to be removed from their list. After a few seconds, a human picked up the line and said he was glad I wanted to learn more about lowering my interest rates. When I told him I was on the Do Not Call list and that I selected the option to be removed, then asked why was he talking to me, he hung up.
I received a call from this number and have learned when all it shows on my caller ID is a city and state that it is a scam so I just pick it up and hang up just to make the phone stop ringing. Then I block the number. Tomorrow they will probably call again using a different number.
The Do Not Call list only works for legit businesses, no scammer will ever pay attention to it just as a burglar pays no attention to a door lock. Having it makes you feel better but will never stop a crook.
