I re-registered on the 'National Do Not Call Registry' on May 1st but am still getting these annoying phone calls. I have since used my Caller ID, when I see who it is from I don't pick up. It seems like I am getting more calls now than I did before. This is just one of many. I am going to start sending this message everytime I get a call like this. Thank you
Also got a call from the above number. Caller ID said: URGENT. Give me a break(LOL). No message left, of course. Do Not Call Registry is a joke. Caller ID is the greatest invention since sliced bread.
360-633-9260 called an hour ago. Came up on caller ID as Urgent. I've seen this behavior before from telemarketers, so I left it go to the answering machine. It was an pre recorded message that said of I was over 60 I could receive 3000 dollars in groceries.
Be careful with these calls. Especially the elderly. These are phishing scams by phone. They're just trying to get you to pick up so they can tell you a lie so they can get your credit card number.
I really hate all these telemarketers. I believe that the Federal Do Not Call List is compromised. Either by willing participants at the government employee level or by lack of security. It's not a conspiracy theory, its a fact. I've actually went on an redid the national do not call list, only to have more telemarketers hit me that day. It's not a coincidence.
I'm so fed up with this sh&t. Everyday I'm getting hammered by different scammers.
The other day I got the well known phone call telling me my computer was infected. They said they worked for Microsoft. I told them I knew the call was a scam and I couldn't believe after all the attention that they are still telemarketing this scam. In a Indian accent, this guy started calling me a m&fer. He was about ready to say some firrm of verbal threat when I hung up on him. That btw I'd my favorite thing to do. I like to ensure them in conversation then just hang up on them. I've had them call right back and that's when they get my full ire.
We as consumers need to rally together and come up with a plan to counter this behavior. It's a very tough problem to counter when they outsource and spoof numbers. I'm sure though that somewhere, there is an cure for this plague.
The DNC works just fine. It is for telemarketers only and honest business does indeed abide by it. It is the criminals (which includes illegal telemarketers), frauds and scammers that do not. However, the Fed. DNC does not cover some survey's, Political or Charities. You would need to check your states DNC laws to see if these are under your states DNC laws. The fact remains that they are not automatic call blockers though and can not protect you from the calls that are criminal, illegal or fraudulent.
Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.
I received this call about four hours ago. Between the out of state area code and the caller ID showing "URGENT," I knew to not answer the call. There was no message, and -- judging from what I've read here -- the call wasn't really all that urgent.
@IH8alltelemarketers: I don't think the DNC list is compromised. It's just that the dishonest telemarketers that don't use it and don't care (and know the feds won't intervene unless enough people are cheated or swindled). I, too, have had that call about the infected computer scam. Last time I got it, my computer wasn't even on, so I called them out on the obvious lie before hanging up on them.
