I'm getting the same thing. Caller ID just shows "S" as the name and the phone number (without the area code). They're calling with two different numbers. One is 848-6540, the other is 848-6552. Both with the same name.. "S".
I've checked with dexonline.com to backtrack the caller.. they're listed as a WA #'s but no other information is given. Same as everyone here, they call several times a day for several days a week and leave no messages. I work nights and "try" to sleep days (hard with a one yr old baby) and this is getting quite ridiculous. My wife's thinking it may be a collection agency, if it is... it's a sure-fire way of killing any type of collaboration or cooperation. If it's a bugged system..wow.. wild to think computer viruses moving into the telephone systems. I know cell phones are able to contract PC-like viruses, didn't know if landline systems could either.. if it is. :/
another hang-up call this morning at 09:48. *69 shows 360-848-6540 and a quick check shows it is a Verizon land line leased by Skagit Bonded Collectors. The caller id has been altered to indicate various incorrect numbers such as 000-000-0000 and some calls from their auto dialer program are configured to hang up before the CID fully registers in the log.
Since I have no outstanding debts, this must be racially motivated. Will make my harrasment case pretty straight forward.
I actually called the SBC company at 360-336-3116 and told them that people keep calling me for the wrong person. The receptionist said she'll give my numbers to the collectors to take off. Hopefully this works

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
