I think it's amazing you were able to understand him at all - I played the message twice and only got the gist that it was some kind of scam.
Called at 8:30 AM but I didn't pick up since I did not recognize the number.

THIS IS A SCAM and a fairly dirty, unsophisticated one at that. READ ALFALFA's POST.  Got the same messages also--same person, same accent, same messages as above..  Two voicemail messages left at 8:30 and 10:08 AM 3/27.  When I listened to the messages, I had to laugh.  Dude sounds like a heavy right out of a Steven Seagal movie and is about as believable.

Having relatives who are with the "real" IRS and having dealt with the "real" IRS,  his post is absolutely correct.  These scams target those who may be more easily intimidated/confused. The heavy, threatening tone deflects attention away from the errors and  LACK of  any detailed information in the call.  Read Alfalfa's post.  The IRS usually contacts by letter first.

We don't have "magistrate" judges in the U.S.

The message is addressed to a generic "you". If the IRS or anyone leaves a message, they usually say "this message is for Joe Blow", not  "this message is for you".

The lack of an 800 number with an extension # or a local number with an extension # is a tip off.

The wild variety of escalating charges ranging from back taxes, enforcement, encroachment, appearances before magistrates that are left on the voicemail are designed to frighten and keep people from using their common sense.  If the IRS or anyone calls and leaves a message regarding a confidential issue, it is usually to the effect of "This is in regards to XYZ. Please return my call at 800 blah blah blah."

Really. Magistrates????? Encroachment?????

I had a voicemail saying it was urgent to call - 2nd notice - from Dennis Gray.  When I called a man with a heavy accent picked up quickly and he said his name was Mark Gibson.  He said we owed the IRS money and that there was a warrent for my arrest and that we needed to work with them. He even gave an id number.  I told him I had no idea what he was talking about, but he did have my name when I gave him my phone number.  I asked to talk with a manager and he said said something but I couldn't understand what he was saying.  I asked to talk with a manager again and he hung up.  I called the number back again and when I said my name and that I wanted to talk with a manager he hung up.  I tried to call back again and he just hung up.  The 4th time I just got a busy signal.
