We weren't home but call showed up on caller ID. No message was left. No name, just New Smyrna, FL, and the number. If I understand what others have experienced with the "Press 1" to talk about lowering your interest rate, I have had this same pitch but with another number.
I get calls from this number and others like it all the time. It's the same thing over and over...don't be alarmed we can lower your rate...blah blah blah. My number is on a do not call list and I have pushed 2 several times to have my named removed. They never stopped. I finally started to push 1 to blast someone out and tHey would hang up on me when I would tell them about the do not call list. They would hang up on me when I would start asking questions. I pretended to be an FBI agent one time and they "didn't get it" and kept asking me questions, so I told them to stop calling and hung up on them. One time I played along for fun and told them I had $300 in credit card debt and they said, "Oh sorry we can't help you", I said "Of course you can't because you are a bunch for frauds and crooks looking to steal peoples identities." They hung up. I've told them they would be reported to FCC and they would hang up. I have asked them several times to stop calling and they still do. They still call every week sometimes 2-3 times per week. I am no longer answering their calls as I can see it's a Florida number. I think if you answer it gives them a reason to keep calling back. Hopefully they will stop eventually. They call from several different Florida numbers, all are listed as "disconnected" when you try to call them back. I have reported the various numbers to FCC...nothing has happened. When is someone going to nail these people to the wall. What they are doing is illegal. They want your info so they can commit fraud. I think if everyone keeps calling FCC, they will have to do something. I can't imagine this people aren't being investigated already.
Same thing happened to me, but I answered because I know someone in that area. I hope someone finds out who the prankster is. We have a business to run.
IT CALLED BUT I WAS AT WORK, WHEN I GOT HOME I CALLED BACK, IT WAS A VOISE MASSAGE THAT SAID HELLO THIS IS " CAPTION STEVE LANDRE" PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE, I DONT EVEN LIVE IN FL, I LIVE IN NEW ENGLAND???
Same as everyone else. Called back, says disconnected, but I think that it's not disconnected as everyone else says, I think they copied the operator message and put it on their answer machine/voice mail. Usually truly disconnected phone numbers have that operator message and then a really annoying tone that plays afterward that makes you hang up. This didn't happen this time. I think they want us to think its disconnected.
