Key words you used, "scam artists." The Do Not Call List only stops real companies from calling you. These aren't real companies. They're scam artists, aka Criminals, using fake phone numbers to call you to try to commit a crime on you.
Got another call. This time my pause in my answering machine got them. It is the "lowering your interest rate" SCAM.
They buy credit information to get your numbers and card balances and then they target you. What they do not know is I pay mine off every month. This month due to a bunch of purchases and a big repair bill for my daughters car it is even higher and now I have been getting hit big time by these scammers. So my 6500.00 Credit card balance really gets them excited.....and they put me on the high value target list....
I have answered some of these before just to play with the callers....asking them how they will lower my interest rate (which is zero but I do not tell them that right away - I wait until I have them on the line for quite sometime) I tell them hold on to go get my credit card statement.....wait for a couple minutes and then make up some numbers just for them on three different cards. I ask them how much my payment would be....They get all excited and add them all up. Then I say I just do not understand how they can lower my interest rate....They ask what my rate is and I make up something like I think they charge me 16 percent when I carry a balance....and on until I tell them at some point that I typically pay all my cards in full each month so I am confused how they will save me money.....Click - they hang up pissed...
