I've had several calls from this and other numbers describing the same things. I actually have returned some of the calls and have spoken to at least three different individuals over a period of several months :888 782-3210, 844 415-4972, 314 884-3221, 855 348-2470. I even gathered bank statements and asked for a fax number to submit documents proving I didn't owe anything. I finally called a local lawyer and he told me after he returned calls that it was a scam and that it was illegal to do this without submitting written notice to you. What a relief! Unfortunately I was worried at first but knew I was innocent and luckily I knew better than to pay anything. I blocked all calls but got this new call today saying the same things.
Well..Last year about this time I started receiving phone calls from this #...401 433 7875 and saying that I had charges pending against me...make a long story short...here they are again on my phone #!!! I did manage to get through the # and noticed that I kept getting the SAME person on the phone!!! She said that she was from Bart Simpson Assoc. (please, are they kidding??!!) She said I had a $800 loan I had taken out by wire fraud from a place called Archways and something about TD Bank..never had an account there!! what was my SS #...well I would think that you would know that if you are telling me a case is against me and my SS. I used to work collections..legitimate and we ran into some East Indians that were running a scam on our clients, but never mind that now..I am reporting them to the Do Not Call registry as I did last year again!!
I just got the same call. called the number back and someone answered and told that they could contact the sheriff of my county before the call me! Scam.
I got a call from this number, and it is almost exactly like a call I had received from Missouri for several months. Robocall stating that I needed to call their legal department or charges would be filed against me. My husband called this number from Rhode Island back. The first person he spoke to was a man. The man proceeded to recount random facts from my credit report that were totally unrelated to this alleged payday loan. He was attempting to appear to be some type of legal authority. Then he started mentioning the alleged debt and that they were about to summon me. My husband asked who the creditor was, and the man said very rudely and sternly, "You don't need to be interrupting me." My husband responded, "You don't need to be interrupting me when I am trying to find out who the creditor is that you are representing." Then the man hung up. My husband called the number again and spoke to a woman. She claimed that the collections dept had given the debt to them to begin litigation. My husband inquired about the original creditor, and she named a company that we have never heard of. She claimed that we had taken out a payday loan and that it was deposited in our account, and that we had defaulted and they threatened to take me to court. My husband again asked for information regarding the debt, and the lady began to tell him that he didn't understand how it works. That the original creditor and each collection agency had already sent notice and that she was from the litigation department. My husband said we had never received any notification and asked that we be sent a copy of the documents by mail. She then tried to tell my husband that she didn't have that information, but at some point she slipped up by saying that she knew who the original creditor was, the date of the alleged loan and the amount. My husband told her he would accept that information if she would send it by mail. She said that first we had to make arrangements to pay and then they would send the document. My husband told her we were not going to make any type of arrangements without documentation. She then said, "see you in court" and hung up.
This is a scam. A legitimate debt collector will not use illegal tactics, high pressure tactics and threats to collect a debt, and they would have no problem sending out a debt validation notice. A legitimate creditor would also not demand that payment arrangements be made before they send out a validation notice. Do not give them any of your personal or financial information, no matter how legitimate they try to appear, and do not cave in to their illegal, high pressure tactics. Tell them that you will not, under any circumstances, make any payment arrangements without written notice about the debt being mailed to you, and report the calls to the FTC and Federal Consumer Protection Bureau and your state's attorney general.
After I had gotten several calls from the Missouri number, I reported it to the FTC and Federal Consumer Protection Bureau. I am guessing that these scammers are now calling from other numbers because they know that the Missouri numbers had been reported as being a scam. I will be reporting this number as well.
