I'm one of the people who call you guys. It is an error with the computer system, because we use a dialer that calls out for us. What it's been doing is hanging up on people when they answer.
The call isn't a scam, and ECW your husband probably did take the survey. Your number doesn't get into the database unless somebody from the household participated in the survey at one point or another. But it could have been 6 months prior to the phone call, and the survey wasn't online, it was over the phone. It also lasted about 2 minutes at the most so it'd make sense if he wouldn't remember.
Also, they didn't tell you that you won anything. There was no contest involved, and I can guarantee you that everybody who works in the office knows not to say the word "win". There's actually no scam, it's a legitimit company. Free system, free installation, then you pay like 30-35 bucks a month for the monitoring.
If you want the calls to stop, your best bet is to answer the phone, and if somebody IS on the other end, politely listen to what they have to say. Hell, you may be able to benefit from the system. If you get somebody and just say "not interested" and hang up, you're going to get another call. Thats just the way it is...
Just got a call from 401-444-4444 which I assume is a bogus number. Caller ID said Providence RI. I pickedup on the tird ring and got a busy signal. Annoying!
Could be an advance-fee scam where you have to send them money up front for shipping, etc., to get the system. You send them money and nothing will show up at your door.
Could be they come out and install a real security system but you have to pay $$$/month for monitoring with huge cancellation fees, a 5-year service contract in the fine print though they may tell you 2 years verbally, and when you do succeed in canceling, you'll find out they own the system and you have to pay for shipping (what was free was only your *use* of the system) and they won't give you a shipping address but now they start charging you rental fees (previously free) because you have their equipment. When you do manage to send it back, they'll just install it in another victim's home.
Or it could be a legit free home security system but you *will* have to have a monitoring contract and pay $$$/month.
If you want a home security system, get one from a local security shop that's been in business for a while and have good references.
I got about three calls today... As soon as I pick up and say hello, other end will hang up. I called this number back, but got message saying ' this phone is not in service'....
