My phone call was short:
Me: Hello?
Muted delay approx. 10 seconds
Female Caller: Quick Wit?
Me: Excuse me?
Female Caller: May I speak to Mr. Chris Ritz?
Me: You have the wrong number.
CLICK - she hung up!
The other 800Notes report (678-405-6785) states they are calling regarding unpaid/overdue medical bills. We have a few of those, but have always received contact via regular mail. "Chris Ritz" isn't even close to our names!
One post even said that they paid the amount with promise of a letter of receipt and removal from their credit report. Neither promise has been kept.
If you get a call from these guys, ask for the doctor/hospital name, an invoice number, and the dates of service. If they are legitimate, they will be able to provide this information to you. If they say that they can't, for whatever reason, request they send written documentation of the bill/amount due. They have your phone number, so they will have your address, too. If they ask you to verify it, ask them what they have. If they claim that can't do so, then tell them they will have to send the paperwork and hope it gets to you.
I can't believe how stupid some of these scammers are getting. They think they are so smart by proving they have all our personal info. They do not realize that the general public has basically the same access to their info.
I also received a call from this number from a very rude woman saying she didn't have time to chit-chat - right after I said I'd have to check if they were real. She said I'd have until noon today to call back and talk to "Tatum". It was a bill of $213 something, and she said it was from a doctor but I can't remember she actually said my doctor's name. Anyway, no website, only way to pay is by phone.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
