Called to state they represented Advance America on a debt we owed. Referred to my wife to handle, as she handles all household bills/debts. Spoke with Ms. Butler. Pay agreement set for $575.00 settlement offer of $775. All was paid over a course of 6 weeks, We are working on our credit and didn't want it going to the bureau. On the final payment things went badly, as she tried to change the price of payoff (final payment). We argued. She hung up on me. I called her back and asked for her supervisor. She said that "I am the supervisor". I asked for her manager and she hung up on me again, I calmed down then called my bank. I was able to get back the last $221.00 she'd withdrawn from my bank card. We then cancelled the bank card. Hubby phoned them thereafter and threatened them with an attorney. They were very kind and cautious and stopped demanding the final payoff, but agreed to end the debt. Later, could not get a confirmation of payoff of debt. Several empty promises made...i.e. in the mail,,,,sending to email...but nothing. Talking to a lawyer.
I've been getting calls from this number for over a week now. It's a recording of a woman saying I need to "immediately" call her back to discuss my "role in this matter." Something about they are going to move forward with legal action in my "local county." Such BS. The number she gave me to call back is 877-620-2730 and that has many hits if you search for it here on 800notes. This shows all the makings of a scam.
These people use scare tatics and harrassment to collect money on accounts that fraudalent. They credit bureaus would have it on there records if you had any unpaid bills and the cops would be knocking on you door if you had engaged in any fraudalent act. Most frauds are a felony and these people will get whats coming to them sooner than later.
Are these people for real In their threats? I've heard several stories of people getting calls about payday loans etc. telling them if they don't pay they will be proceeding through county.
