Called AGAIN early this morning so I called it back. It's American Express "trying to confirm an address for Michael Rodgers". I told them there is no Michael Rodgers here, and that I've had my phone number for 20 years." They claim that they are removing my number from their database, however, I've received calls for this man before, and told the callers they have the wrong number. I've concluded that some deadbeat provided MY number as a contact, and blew off his debt.
Update: I called American Express. Customer service said it wasn't their number and they couldn't find any information for me. I told them about the other complaints online, and they really should do something about the alleged misrepresentation. I was put on hold, then they returned and said the phone number has been forwarded to a specialist and will be removed. They wouldn't/couldn't confirm or deny that this number is theirs or not.
I have received a call from this number twice. Both times it is a man with Indian accent, very hard to understand. I could not tell what organization he is saying he is from. He asks me to verify my social security number or my birthdate. Not good!!!
