Virtually everything you have described in this call is a violation of law. We can therefore conclude that the posts above claiming "this is legit" were actually made by the individuals behind this attempted fraud.
And, yes, you are quite right that they probably got your personal information when you applied for a loan on line. Be careful – you may be a target for identity theft now.
My call was just like some of the above. I looked up the number...BOGUS...funny; I wanted to see just how far they would go...and if they would try to weedle my SSN and other information out of me. I threw the second fella off guard (said his name was John Marshall) and he said "I'll call you back!" ;-)
This is my first time with this "law firm" scam...but, today I got 6 OTHER NEW TYPES!!!!!! Plus, I'm getting the hangup and the female voice saying "goodbye." There were a series of this type of calls long time ago!!!
I'm on the do-not-call list; but, it doesn't seem to work!!!!!
I just received a phone call frm 404-382-8637 and what some of you guys said sounds very similar to my situation. I actually applied for a payday loan and got denied so if someone is trying to us my SSN.. they are S.O.L. because if i couldn't get a payday loan.. I'm sure they can't get a new line of credit anywhere.. But receiving that call made me a little uneasy. I will NEVER apply for a payday loan again..
THEY WERE RIGHT, AND I WAS WRONG!
Okay, okay so I admit it! I was wrong. ..AND THAT SUCKS.I had forgotten all about this loan and even who I owed it to!! Initially I cursed this dude out….(but then I finally remembered getting the loan and then I also remembered not paying it off) !! Okay, okay so I admit it! I was wrong.
