Got a call that left VM on cell phone just now. If you actually answer, that sets your number as a "live" number and places that live number on mutliple lists. Don't bother answering. It will do you no good. Just the same as calling them back. These are scammers that are phishing for information.
The DO NOT CALL Registry is useless. My number is on there and still get calls often. Used to list the numbers in complaints but that goes NOWHERE as that registry is not enforced.
FTC, FCC, State Attorney, etc do nothing about this. They are a waste, just as much as the people conducting these calls.
This same automated call is coming from several numbers; I've started taking them down: all have to do with your credit card, I never listen long enough to find out precisely what. "Arkansas call" 501-246-8748; "Alabama call" 251-272-1440 ("Jennifer with consumer services"); "Georgia call" 404-418-8936 (also "Jennifer with consumer services"). Right that, about hoping the opt-out option on these comes early in the call, but clearly one will need to use it again and again until all the initiating phone numbers have been exhausted.
