Recieved a call from a female who would only identify herself as Johnson. She stated I owed from a payday loan company from 2010. I told her I have no issue paying if she could mail be a letter stating what I owed. She told me it was too late for that. I told her anyone trying to collect a "settlement" would send a contract in the mail stating what was owed and what the settlement would be. She became very defensive and spewed my information including the ast four of my SS#. I told her good luck with that, I've been hacked and refuse to pay anyone without proper information in wrtiing. She threatened jail time and law suits with fees. Gave me a case and file number to boot. I don't know how to get these people to stop calling me. It's frustrating as hell. I work for any dime I get and scammers are sitting on their a$$es trying to take the money I earn.
Don't know about you guys , but I got a call from Ms Johnson also. She offered me a settlement to clear this up and I am so glad that I accepted. Not two days later one of the ladies in my office who got the same online loan as I did was picked up from our local police department at our job. I am just glad that I was one of the few that still have my same cell phone number as when I took out the loan so they could get in touch with me. I called the police department and they stated that they did not receive anything in my name. WHOOO! Thank God.
So, you are unsure about who called you ... but you are so grateful for the call that you decided to visit a site concerned with scam phone calls.
You accepted a "settlement" when you were phoned about a loan from the company whose name you forgot, but you did not bother to get the FDCPA mandated WRITTEN notification of debt.
I just seen this same status in another complaint site.Makes me wonder if someone is trying to make people think that Ms. Johnson is a nice lady. When in real these people are rude and is very defensive about questions you have. Smh
Never let bullies on the phone confuse extortion with debt collection. Honest debt collectors do not typically send their claims straight to a judge, and they don't take your ransom money to broker quick deals with so-called "process servers". There are no secretive "arbitrators", "assessment specialists", "detectives", "investigators", "mediators", or "prelitigation specialists". They are sweaty double-talking criminals with a script full of coercive remarks. Lawful debt collection is a process, not an ambush, and you are due a chance at each stage to raise a dispute. The agents' horrid threats are empty and their conduct is illegal. Do not reward lawbreakers with your money. Challenge them always, sue them if you can.
