The man said he was calling from a law office but the noise was so great behind him I couldn't discern the name of the firm even though I had him repeat it three times. He told me that I had won $500,000 in a sweepstakes I had entered a while ago and was going to transfer me to another lawyer who would validate the delivery of the check at a certain time next week. When I told him my husband couldn't come to the phone, he hung up.
Said they were calling from Mongtomery Stearns (I think that's what they said)? Said I was a second place winner in the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes. Said they attempted to contact me by mail (I do not recall receiving anything by mail). They asked if I was sitting down because they wanted to tell me I won $500,000 and someone would be by my house within 2 days of this phone call to deliver a check. I gave them no information and they asked for no information, strange....
They call me at least 3 times per hour, every other day. They never leave a message, and when I answer there is never anyone on the line. Seems like an automated calling service that no longer has people to run the calls.
An "attorney" from Montgomery Stearns called twice and said I had won 2nd place for $500,000. Another attorney would call me to get more info. I figured it was a scam. I told him I would not give my SSN or Acct # over the phone.
