This number belongs to a debt collector by the name of Humphries & Associates. It seems that there are a few many ties to another collector I've found from the same area code i.e. Rosenberg & Associates, which is proven to use fraudulent and scandalous behavior, such as, threatening or claiming to have a fraud complaint regarding a payday loan. I have seen several posts on other sites regarding this and possibly sister companies trying to use criminal action as a way to leverage payments from those who don't know any better. First thing's first, research your state laws regarding payday loans. Beyond the threat of criminal action being a blatant violation of your rights under FDCPA as a debtor, it also seems to completely contrary to Indiana's DFI FAQ on the subject, which is very informative by the way. I will collect as much information as I can and repost as I'm sure I'm not the only one these scum are trying to harass. Be wary that even though these people may have information regarding an account you may have held; this information can be bought from crooked, online based payday companies, and, from what I've researched, is fairly commonplace. DO NOT give these people you card number!! Also, any business that wants to charge a $15 processing fee for a payment that is inconvenient to begin with is a BIG red flag.
Called me today and claims I've had a complaint filed against me called theft by deception. Last I checked I have not committed any such thing. I get warnings sent to my email if something changes on my credit report and again nothing. I am going to get to the bottom of this.
This number has been calling me on my cell and at work. The guy from Humphreys and Associates states the last four digits of my social security number to me. He says I have a claim filed against me. I told him this was my work and not to call again. I have blocked their number from my cell phone. It is an annoyance to keep getting these phone calls like this. They are fraud. All I keep doing is reporting the number to the National Do Not Call list on www.donotcall.gov . This has helped me a lot.
The voicemail was left by a man with a deep voice. He would not leave the name of the company that the debt is supposed to be about. Would not leave a reference number but instead told me to use my phone number when I call back.
