Technically Debt collections can call you Mon-Friday between 8am thru 9pm. Sundays they can call between the hours of 1-5pm (your time zone). That is according to Federal Collection Laws. The only way to get these jerks to stop calling is by a cease and desist letter sent to them. I will be also sending them a letter. They called me yesterday at 4:36 pm and am tired of their repeated calls and not leaving messages.
I do NOT answer calls I do not know, nor do I call anyone back who cannot leave a message. Also make sure that when you send your letter get it certified so that way you have proof you sent it and they signed for it. Any further calls after they have been informed in writing they then can be sued for harassment and violating the Federal collection laws.
These pathetic bottom-feeders have been calling our house since March, 2009. After about a year of four or more calls a day showing up on cakker ID, and two "generic" letters, offering a "deal" on the alleged "debt", I got in touch with the consumer protection division of our state's attorney general's office. The PRA had refused to answer my letters asking for verification. The AG consumer person directed them to identify themselves in the caller ID, call no more than twice a day, and answer my letter. So, I got a letter from their lawyer, the one they hired just to deal with all the calls they were getting from Attorney general offices all over the USA. He admitted they cannot verify the debt, he told me how much the original debt was -- less than half of what they had been claiming -- and he wrote in black letters on white paper, in English, that they had "decided to cease collection efforts" on this debt. That was first week of September, 2010. Yesterday's two calls were #371 and #372 since then! These people are the lowest form of pond scum. According to the lawyer, the so-called debt was for a credit card to a bank I never heard of, the debt had been written off by the bank, and PRA had bought a printout of that bank's written-off debt in 2001. He did not tell my why PRA had cradled this printout to its bosom for eight years before it started calling our house. Of course, the debt, if indeed it was from 1997, was out of statute long before 2009. And let's remember, these bottom feeding vermin paid pennies on the dollar for the line on the printout. They are claiming they are owed more than *fifty times* the amount they paid for this line in a printout of written off debt for which a bank, if the debt ever existed, received a generous tax write-off. If the vermin at PRA paid for a line in a printout , that is entirely their problem. None of us owes PRA one dime. PRA needs to take a very long walk off a very short pier. DO NOT LET THESE SCUM INTIMIDATE YOU, DO NOT ANWER THE PHONE, ADN IF YOU DO, DO NOT SPEAK TO THEM, DO *NOT* ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS OR GIVE ANY INFORMATION.
