I received a call today from Mary Scott claiming to be from the 'check fraud division' and she had just received my file on her desk, blah, blah, blah... The same spiel I have gotten from at least ten other other numbers over the past couple of months. Where they have gotten my information from is beyond me, one even knew my employers name, my boss's name, and the last four of my social and I have only been with my current employer for six months).
I couldn't get any information from her other than the fact that she wanted my debit card information to pay for a check that I had supposedly written and not honored (I haven't written a check out in at least 6 years, I pay everything electronically), but she wouldn't give me the name of who the check was supposedly written out to. When I told her to just hand my information over to the other folks for prosecution she was dumbfounded, and said are you sure, you're going to be in a lot of trouble. I told her to yes, just hand it over, just like I have told the other companies that are going to serve me papers "tomorrow" to just come and serve the papers.
I am not afraid of any of them, I haven't done anything wrong. Bring it on. Amazingly, no one has shown up, those "tomorrows" have never materialized. I refuse to change my cell number so I just keep adding the numbers to my ignore list that goes directly to VM.
Unfortunatley this will never stop as these places just continue to move around and change their names and numbers.
I received a voice mail message today from a Mary Scott from Check Fraud Division asking me to contact my daughter ____ before 5:00 today because she was trying to keep her from being prosecuted. I know that my daughter doesn't write checks, and in fact, when she opened her checking account, did not want any checks. She only uses her debit card. When I told her about this, she became very upset and told me that she has NEVER written any checks. When I saw this post, I immediately called her back and read to her what had been said and told her NOT to give Mary Scott any information, and tell this Mary Scott to fax everything she had on Stephanie to her attorney (which by they way, my daughter works for an attorney). The nerve of people trying to take from someone who has nothing....this really upsets me that people can do this and get by with it!!!
First of all they called my mother and got her really upset. When I called the number back another party tansferred me to a Lisa Jones who stated that she was an Investigator and that they were going to charge me with 3 felony counts willful intent, theft, and Larceny by check, she claimed their company was Brown and Associates, tried to get $588.17 the ironic things about this is that that debt was legit and paid in 2009 and she was trying to collect it. Why is there no criminal charges brought against these people this is what they do all the time, and your average person will pay these people becaus they are scared of going to jail. My issue was from 6 years ago. Contact an attorney and make them provide information to you in writing.
