A woman named Courtney King called from 404-937-3528. She left a hostile VM saying I was a known associate of Amy Harbor, that it was imperative that I call her immediately and provide a case # she gave me. Amy Harbor is my spouse's ex-wife of over 18 years ago, so under no legal theory are we responsible for her. We continue to get collection calls from agencies buying her debt and have had to send cease & desist letters.  I called to get mailing address information. to do this yet again  I am an attorney and know what agencies can and cannot do about harassing people.  When I advised Ms. King of this, she started yelling, talking over me, and told me telling her I'm an attorney is improper and I need to talk to her the right way. She hung up on me before I could obtain the information I needed.  I tried to call back and she immediately hung up on me.  That # rings to her extension.  I then tried to call beck from several phones and nobody would answer.  I'm calling the state consumer fraud division.  First, she told me she was with Pre-Mediation and then NCI Fraud Division.  EXTREMELY unprofessional.

Received a voicemail from a lady at the (404)937-3528 number and she said she was from NCI something division and that there was a legal matter being filed against me and that I need to call her back immediately. She gave a case number that started with 2015. I didn't call back.

I got the same message from a courtney king as well with a mean voice mail giving me a case number as well that started with 2015 when I called back to talk to a courtney king a woman came on with the same voice that the courtney king left me, but stated her name was Meagan saying I owed this money, but was making no sense. When I said I fell for this two years ago and took care of this matter twice already, she said well I needed to contact the collection agency because they probably scammed me. When I said that, it was never a collection agency that contacted me it was people like her saying they were investigators. She just went on about how she is on the criminal side of this matter and she was going to the court at 6pm, when I know that courts aren't open that late. Then saying the judge would sign off on it on Saturday morning. Then telling me to call her back Friday night and leave a message with a reference number. Then also stated something that I can go to any bank of America and take care of this matter. That I needed to pay at least 350. It was making no sense to me at all. Go to bank of America and tell them exactly what with no documentations. I am sorry but Bank of America has nothing to do with this. You don't go to the bank to pay some payday loan debt. Needless to say this Megan lady that origionally said she was  Courtney KIng was rude and not making any sense. She was threatning me with all kinds of things. Saying I will be in custody in seven to 10  days. I did call back that night and left a message that I needed her to email me a document stating what company this is from and an invoice of what I owe. So I am waiting for her to send me that information to my email before I do anything, Because like I said I got scammed twice already and they were suppose to mail me a receipt and they never did.

I got the same phone call on Friday saying the same thing with a case number starting with 2015 too. No case numbers start with a year. Its usually a 6-9 digit case number. Don't call back. Its more in likely a scam. I called back and the lady was rude and was giving me accurate information and was making no sense to me at all. And threatning me on top of it.

Total scam  .  Only public prosecutors can bring criminal charges and only law enforcement can investigate alleged crimes.   Being in debt is not a crime and you cannot be arrested for it.  Debt collectors have no influence on the criminal justice system.  Warrants are only issued by judges upon a request by law enforcement after a police investigation.  Warrants are only issued to duly constituted officers of the law.  They only used in criminal matters.   Debt collectors have nothing to do with any crime investigation.  They are just trying to scare you into paying them something.  Don't fall for it.

Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  DIME  until the debt is validated.

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.

If they are bothering you,

Report them:

http://www.consumerfinance.gov/Complaint/#debt-collection

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection  (Threatening arrest or criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a clear violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act)

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money,  tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
